Riverside County, FIND Food Bank Respond to Water Crisis at Oasis Mobile Home Park

OASIS – FIND Food Bank today provided bottled water to families at Oasis Mobile Home Park following new reports by residents that the mobile home park’s water system is unsafe to use for drinking, bathing and cooking.

During Wednesday’s meeting with the Oasis Mobile Home Park community, residents showed Supervisor V. Manuel Perez a copy of the notice from the owners of the park, dated July 1, that the water should not be used for any purpose, including drinking, bathing, cooking and brushing one’s teeth.

At the county’s request, FIND Food Bank today distributed 1,200 gallons of bottled water to Oasis Mobile Home Park residents. FIND Food Bank will continue to have distributions over the weekend. Residents will be made aware of the schedule for water distribution.

FIND Food Bank President & CEO Debbie Espinosa states, “As the regional disaster response food bank for Riverside County, FIND is ready to provide relief in times of emergency, like we did today at Oasis Mobile Home Park. We’ll continue distributing free groceries and water at our Mobile Markets throughout the Coachella Valley. We want the families to know that FIND is there now and always to help them through this difficult time.”

Supervisor Perez thanks FIND Food Bank for assisting the Oasis Mobile Home Park community.

“Can you imagine not having water to drink, bathe or cook with? That is not humane or acceptable, and, personally, I am saddened, angry and feel it’s a shame that so many of our residents have been suffering for so long without clean water,” said Supervisor Perez. “I want to thank FIND Food Bank for its immediate response to assist at Oasis Mobile Home Park and for, once again, always being there for our communities.”

Supervisor Perez is coordinating with county departments, community agencies and others to assist with the community’s water needs.

Community Partners Make Bottled Water, Shower Facilities Available for Residents of Oasis Mobile Home Park

OASIS – FIND Food Bank and the Coachella Valley Unified School District have stepped up to make bottled water and shower facilities available for families at Oasis Mobile Home Park, who lack clean water to use for drinking, bathing and cooking.

Since Thursday, FIND Food Bank has been distributing bottled water to residents. FIND Food Bank held another distribution this afternoon and will continue to help, with distributions planned over the weekend.

Starting Sunday, the Coachella Valley Unified School District will make its shower facilities at the Desert Mirage High School gym and locker room area available for residents of Oasis Mobile Home Park to use. The showers will be available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through August 7. Residents should bring their own hygiene products and towels.

“We received notice that residents and students from Oasis were having a hardship with the water issues that are unfortunately happening at Oasis Mobile Home Park,” said Coachella Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees President Blanca Hall. “The Coachella Valley Unified School District is willing and available to provide services and support that our residents and students need.”

“We are saddened by the situation but glad that we can support our community, students and families and serve in whichever way necessary,” stated Coachella Valley Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Luis Valentino.

Supervisor V. Manuel Perez is continuing to coordinate with county departments, community agencies and others to mobilize resources to assist with the water crisis at Oasis Mobile Home Park. Residents received a notice from the owners of the park that the water from the park’s water system should not be used for any purpose, including drinking, bathing, cooking and brushing one’s teeth.

“I am grateful for our community partners, the Coachella Valley Unified School District and FIND Food Bank, for helping the community as much as possible,” said Supervisor Perez. “These resources will help residents lacking safe water to have water for their families and a safe place to shower. Thank you again to these agencies for all they are doing to support the community.”
