INDIO, CA (July 20, 2022) – Debbie Espinosa, President and CEO of FIND Food Bank, The Desert’s Regional Food Bank, was elected Board Chair to the National Advisory Council (NAC) for Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States.

As the Chair, Debbie will lead the National Council which is comprised of 16 representatives from 200 Feeding America regional food banks in the United States. The Council serves as the voice of the national network of food banks and acts as the advisory body to Feeding America and its Board of Directors. Further, in her role as Chair, she will also serve as a board member on the National Board of Directors of Feeding America.

“Debbie has proven herself as a strong advocate and innovative leader ensuring 150,000 people on average each month in the desert region have equitable access to proper nutrition,” commends Lena Wade, chair of the FIND Food Bank Board of Directors. “She is well deserving of her national leadership role that will fortify FIND’s ability to meet the Coachella Valley’s needs now and into the future.”

The National Council is responsible for establishing strategies and policies that affect and drive the unified work for the entire Feeding America hunger relief movement.

Espinosa will be fulfilling the balance of the former president’s terms through the end of 2022 with the option to continue to a second term through the end of 2023.

“It’s quite humbling to be appointed to this position and I am honored to be able to serve in this capacity,” Espinosa said. “I look forward to adding our desert’s voice to the national platform of hunger and food security to affect nationwide change while highlighting the innovative work that FIND has been implementing in partnership and collaboration with many wonderful organizations in the community.”

Espinosa began her tenure as President and CEO of FIND Food Bank in February 2018. She has worked in the non-profit sector for almost 30 years, with more than a decade serving in food banks. Her efforts in hunger relief and food security have spanned local, regional, national, and international levels. That experience includes serving as a Global Food Banking Network’s Strategic Programs and Operational Consultant for the National Food Banking systems of Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, managing the compliance and capacity development standards for the Feeding America food banks in the southwestern United States, and serving as the Special Assistant to the CEO and Chief Officers of Fair Trade USA.

Currently, she serves on the National Executive Committee of the Board for the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance and is a local board member for the Riverside County Emergency Food and Shelter Program. Espinosa also serves as one of the leaders of the Feeding America Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion National Advisory Council.

Espinosa is an expert in the field of food banking and food security, regularly presenting at the local and national levels. She holds a master’s degree from Penn State University in Community and Economic Development with an emphasis on rural communities and developing countries.
