Cereal Drive

Desert Care Network Cereal Drive

4 in 5 Children are at risk of Summer hunger

Summer is difficult for families facing hunger. Budgets tighten while the desert’s economy slows. Kids are home and missing meals they would normally get at school. Neighbors may have to choose between food and air conditioning during devastating heat waves.

Desert Care Network Hospitals are leading a community effort to provide food-insecure children and adults with a healthy breakfast during the summer months through its annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, benefitting FIND Food Bank.

Cereal and cash donations will be collected June 9 – 13 at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, as well as JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio and Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree.

Whole-grain cereal, when part of a healthy, balanced breakfast including dairy, fruit and lean protein, is a popular food item that experts say can help address the hunger gap during the summer months when children are not in school.

Volunteers Are Urgently Needed

FIND needs YOUR HELP to distribute healthy groceries to 125,000 people on average each month, while the need remains high through the summer.

FIND relies on volunteers to sort, package, and distribute food directly to our food-insecure neighbors. A few hours of your time can make a huge impact!
